THIS SEASON’S TOP STORIES
EMO Volunteers Needed Fiona showed us the willingness of our community to come together in trying times, and the necessity of planning ahead for the future. The Emyvale Rec Centre at 2155 Kingston Rd. is your designated community warming centre and disaster relief checkpoint. Plans are in the works to renovate the centre to provide more support in times of need, including showers, laundry, drinking water, warming, food prep areas, limited sleeping capacity, charging and power, information, guidance, and coordination with provincial programs in times of emergency. The North River 4H building at 1296 Kingston Rd. is our community emergency backup location.
Volunteers are needed to plan and act if we’re faced with fires, floods, storm damage, or any other community-level hardship. Efforts will be made in the coming months to organize an emergency phone-tree style neighbourhood check-in plan to make sure everyone is accounted for, and for aid to be organized effectively in times of need. Terms and time commitments are negotiable. Any and all help is warmly welcome and appreciated.

Pride Week, which has just passed, is a time to honour diversity, celebrate inclusion, and show support for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities while continuing to advance equity and inclusion in our society. We hope all our residents feel included and welcome in our communities.
Rural Municipality Stats: 395 Households, 3 Institutions, 1 110 People (as of 2022)
Climate Change Project Funding Available. The “Adaptation in Action” funding stream will support projects that “implement measures that reduce impacts from climate-related events and hazards”. Projects can involve measures such as improving infrastructure to withstand extreme weather, installing new measures to reduce impacts on the community, modifying the landscape to reduce wildfire risks, or bolstering municipal services to better support vulnerable community members, with an emphasis on projects that provide low-carbon and nature-positive community benefits. LOOKING FORWARD TO AUTUMN
In 2024, ownership of the Emyvale Rec Centre was transferred to the Municipality under an agreement in which the volunteer-run organization: Emyvale Recreation Centre Inc. retains the responsibility of operations and maintenance. This is a new chapter in the use and care of this now communally-owned property and we are seeking your input on best use practices, development, programs, and fundraising ideas at kingstonPEI.ca/RecCentre.
This November, Kingston will be having an election for Mayor and Council to serve for the next 4 years. It's important to have active resident participation in local governance. Consider running for this valuable public service. Any Canadian citizen over 18 years of age who has been a resident of Kingston for at least 6 months is eligible to run.
