Funding Announcement!

The Rural Municipality of Kingston is delighted to announce that the much needed Emyvale Recreation Centre Renovation and Addition Project will start this October and be completed by March 31st 2027. We wish to thank both the Federal and Provincial Governments for their funding agreements that have made this project possible. The Federal Government has contributed through the Building Communities Strong Fund, Community Stream and the Local Impact Stream. The Provincial Government has contributed through the Rural Growth Initiative Fund. The Municipality is also a major contributor to this project.

Renovations and general maintenance for the Rec Centre will ensure its long term viability. The expansion will enable the hall to provide more space and improved services to the residents. We look forward to residents joining us to make the Centre a busy place bringing residents together. We also wish to thank the Provincial Government through its Community Renewable Energy Generation Program for funding our electrical upgrade and solar panel install.

Now that the Renovations will take place, the solar panel will be installed once the roof replacement has been completed. An official announcement will take place in October. We will let you know through our website, https://kingstonpei.ca/, on our bulletin board at the entrance to the hall and on our roadside sign.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day September 30th. A ceremony including prayers, songs and reflection and flag lowering will be held at 11:30am at the Shaw Building Courtyard, 95 Rochford Street, Charlottetown. This day is set aside to honour residential school survivors and the many children who never returned home. Recognizing and honouring the legacy of intense harm suffered by Indigenous Peoples is a vital part of the reconciliation process. Visit lnuey.ca/c/ndtr/, nctr.ca/ , to learn more, and read the 94 calls to action.

Treaty Day October 1st. Our municipality is located on the unceded ancestral land of the Mi’kMaq people. Unceded land is territory that has not been signed away, surrendered, or ceded to the Crown through a treaty. As settlers, we are party to the Peace and Friendship treaties in a longstanding promise of mutual obligations and benefits for both parties. There will be a Treaty Day Ceremony at 10:30am at the Shaw Building Courtyard, 95 Rochford Street, Charlottetown and a Treaty Day Mawio-mi from 1pm-5pm at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. Visit lnuey.ca/c/treaty-day/ and lnuey.ca/education-awareness /treaty-rights/ for more information. “We encourage all Islanders to attend and take part in honouring Mi’kmaw culture, heritage, and our shared history.” – l’nuey.ca
